Conceived as an immersion in Montreal's identity, the project offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the office where culture, art, and user experience become the very foundations of the design. Commissioned by Tourisme Montréal, a private, non-profit organization that has been promoting the city for over 105 years, Folio Design was tasked with a complete transformation of existing spaces to fully embody the organization's mission, promote Montreal, generate economic benefits, and actively contribute to the evolution of its tourism offerings.
The approach stems from a clear desire to create a collaborative, flexible, and meaningful work environment capable of supporting both the operational needs of the teams and the strength of the brand. The project had to address multiple challenges, including optimizing spaces, adapting to new work realities, and adhering to a strict budget, all while delivering a distinctive experience rooted in its context.
Structured around a strong axis symbolically linking the St. Lawrence River to Mount Royal, the design highlights the site's architectural qualities and the exceptional views it offers of the city. The perimeter is entirely open to maximize natural light and provide unobstructed views of iconic landmarks such as Place Ville Marie and the South Shore. At the heart of the project, collaborative spaces are organized as a dynamic core that fosters interaction, while areas dedicated to focused work support a variety of uses.
The carefully orchestrated user journey creates a seamless dialogue between the different spatial sequences and leads to a culminating point: the multifunctional space and bistro. A true social hub of the project, this space embodies the desired spirit of conviviality and openness. The integration of a signature mural by the artist WhatisAdam introduces a strong artistic dimension, transforming the space into an immersive experience and a true voice for Montreal culture.
The design strategy is based on an integrated approach where design, art, materials, and uses are developed simultaneously to ensure overall coherence and the project's sustainability. Each intervention is designed to enrich the user experience, foster interaction, and strengthen the sense of belonging.
More than just a simple layout, this project embodies a vision of the office as a living, evolving, and profoundly human space. It accurately reflects the identity of Tourisme Montréal, while offering an inspiring, high-performing environment firmly rooted in its local community.
