TerraBloc is an eco-friendly, modular, and assemble-disassemble micro-habitat designed to meet the expectations of young first-time buyers wishing to live in rural areas, in a context of sobriety, autonomy, and local anchorage. At the crossroads of vernacular architecture and contemporary innovations in eco-construction, TerraBloc offers a concrete alternative to traditional housing: lighter, more flexible, more ecological.
This prefabricated micro-housing offers an area of 25 to 50 m², with a typical studio configuration including a versatile living space and a compact bathroom. It is designed for flexible uses: permanent housing, secondary residence, temporary housing, or shared living.
The project is based on an innovative construction system using wattle and daub, an ancient technique composed of clay soil, straw, and water. This material is implemented in prefabricated wood structures that constitute both the load-bearing walls and the envelope elements. This choice makes TerraBloc a project that is at once respectful of local resources, thermally efficient, and aesthetically warm.
The constructive approach allows for the prefabrication of modules in the workshop, thus limiting construction time, waste, and promoting reuse. Each block is transportable, assemblable, and disassemblable, allowing adaptability to needs, terrains, and lifestyle changes. The modular system also allows for the customization of facades and openings.
In terms of eco-performance, the housing integrates solutions for energy and water autonomy:
- Solar panels on the roof for electricity production.
- Rainwater harvesting for domestic use.
- Insulation with compacted vegetable fibers, if necessary.
- Clay concrete floor laid on a lime-hemp screed, breathable, insulating, and cement-free.
TerraBloc is the meeting of past and future, between the art of hand-building and the demands of the world of tomorrow. A project that proposes a new way of living: autonomous, sober, sensitive, and connected to its territory.
