Kamari is a caldera site and a seaside village, situated on the southeastern coast of Santorini, at the north foot of Mesa Vouno mountain. Its name comes from a small arch, which was part of an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, standing on the south end of the beach. Rockwell Group was tapped to design the resort’s Apnea Restaurant, Aroma Wine Bar, Plateia Restaurant, and two luxury villas.
Rockwell Group was inspired by the cascading geometric forms of the Sandblu resort, which seem to tumble down a hill to meet the sea, and the juxtaposition of the surrounding mountains and deep blue ocean. We wanted guests to experience this transition from “cliffs to coast” within the resort, and, as a result, we focused on natural local stones, white-washed woods, and luxurious marbles. Pops of blue and sage green nod to the sea, lush greenery, and bold bougainvillea. A seamless integration of indoor and out was of primary importance, as was maintaining viewsheds to the beach and water whenever possible.
