Located in the Rosemont-la-petite-Patrie district of Montreal, this old duplex was the perfect opportunity for a transformation into a single-family residence.
Located in a heritage area, the facade was completely renovated, while respecting the typology of the old duplex. The existing layout of the building was also preserved offering an « L » shaped layout. This configuration offers an intimate courtyard enveloped by the built environment. In order to create a contrast with the red brick facade, the back is made of a white facade with large openings.
The new plan proposes an open-concept configuration that emphasis the backyard. The large openings conceal the barrier between the interior and exterior.
At the center of the residence is a majestic staircase. Its white envelope acts as an art piece, while the contrasting and warm wood core evokes the journey between all levels of the project.
