rubic architecture: a spatial reinvention serving creativity
Following a corporate merger in 2024, Rubic Architecture undertook a major redesign to meet the growing needs of its expanding team. The task: transforming an existing space with an atypical layout into a coherent, inspiring workplace that represents the firm's expertise. Initially built on a single floor, the suite was gradually enlarged by successive additions on rooftops. The project's challenge lay in the ability to leverage this fragmented typology to create a smooth, functional experience with a strong identity.
The new layout revolves around three levels with distinct purposes, each enhanced by its unique qualities:
1. The creative workshop, located on the upper level, benefits from abundant natural light through openings on three facades. Offering panoramic views of the Mille-Îles River and the surrounding landscapes, this brightly lit space becomes a true observation post, fostering concentration and creative reflection.
2. The materials library, located on the middle level, acts as a collaborative hub. Designed around a large central island bathed in light, it integrates concealed storage and shared workspaces. It enables the exploration, manipulation, and discussion of materials in an environment conducive to inspiration.
3. The meeting space, located on the ground floor, was designed as a place for exchange and conviviality. It houses the kitchen, meeting rooms of varying geometries (open, semi-closed, or closed), and a café-lounge area for relaxation and socialization. The central terrazzo island serves as an informal gathering point, enhancing group dynamics and the social interactions that are vital to the company's culture. The main entrance is through this meeting space, designed to make a striking first impression. An arched corridor, dressed in deep burgundy, ensures a smooth transition between workspaces and living areas. This signature color is subtly reflected in several elements of the project, including the vegetated steel pergola over the conference room, creating a chromatic coherence within a deliberately minimalist decor dominated by natural materials.
This project embodies a sensitive architectural approach where spatial intelligence merges with aesthetics to create a stimulating, welcoming, and decidedly contemporary work environment.
