A Sweetness Carved in the Urban

The BNV residence blends into the dense fabric of Plateau Mont-Royal with an approach of restraint and sensuality. Behind its discreet façade, the project reveals an interior bathed in light, where materials converse in a soothing harmony. At the heart of this composition is an unexpected gesture: a sculptural, soft, and organic staircase that far exceeds its function.

Rising in the center of the house, this curved staircase, entirely shaped in plaster, floats like a white ribbon under a large skylight. It traverses the levels with a fluid motion, connecting spaces with grace and lightness. Every curve, every roundness has been designed to evoke a sensory experience: the hand glides along the railing, the light caresses the surfaces, the light wood resonates underfoot. More than a passageway, the staircase becomes a spatial landmark, a stage of life, a place of contemplation. Children play on it, plants find their place, and daylight spreads across it. It is no longer a passageway, but an inhabited space.

In contrast with the surrounding raw materials — polished concrete, exposed brick, black metal — the staircase acts as a soothing, almost dreamlike presence. It is at once structure, sculpture, and integrated furniture. A true backbone of the project, it embodies the philosophy of BNV: a place where form follows sensitivity, where functionality becomes emotion, and where architecture is experienced in detail.
