GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 18th edition

Discipline : Interior Design

Categories : Residence / Home Office : Grand Winner

Categories : Residence / Kitchen : Silver certification

Located in Greenfield Park, on the South Shore of Montreal, this 1950s residence has now been transformed thanks to a carefully orchestrated intervention that respects its history and is resolutely forward-looking.

Over the years, the house had already undergone various renovations, including an extension to the backyard, now redesigned to accommodate a light-filled kitchen that opens onto a carefully landscaped garden.

The main challenge of this project was to design a functional kitchen in a narrow, elongated space, allowing a couple in their fifties to share this area fluidly and harmoniously. Each user needed to be able to move freely, perform their tasks without hindrance, while enjoying a shared culinary experience.

The clients wanted a design that seamlessly integrates with the existing architecture while optimizing storage spaces and clearly defining several usage zones: a coffee corner, a meal preparation area, and a drinks-dedicated space.

The extension was entirely reimagined to enhance the relationship between the interior and exterior: the addition of large full-height windows invites the landscape to become an integral part of the interior experience. The original openings and exterior materials have been incorporated into the new concept, creating a harmonious blend of past and present. From this fusion has emerged a coherent and vibrant kitchen, where every detail tells a story.

The design of the office, strategically located in close proximity to the main entrance, was also carefully considered. As a true visual contact point upon arrival, this space had to be both practical, with generous storage, and aesthetically linked to the entire project. The materials used, chosen in the same essence as those of the integrated furniture in the entrance and kitchen, play with textures and finishes to create a discreet and sophisticated harmony, while maintaining a warm and elegant visual continuity.
