PASSAGE is a permanent museum installation located in a regulated area of Montreal International Airport (YUL). Designed to soothe and captivate transit passengers, it offers an immersive experience through a poetic reinterpretation of the city. As a true open window onto Montreal, it reveals the metropolis from a sensitive and unprecedented angle.
The visual journey is structured around a series of frames of different formats evoking windows. Suspended from the ceiling or attached to the wall with straps inspired by the luggage universe, these modules display backlit photographs and videos, recreating the effect of a gaze cast over the city. As visitors move along the corridor, they symbolically traverse an entire day, from sunrise to sunset. The artworks move in hyperlapse – a technique of accelerated time capture – providing a vibrant condensation of urban atmospheres, changing light, and Montreal diversity.
Every detail of the installation has been meticulously designed in a complex airport context: requirements for universal accessibility, safety standards, constraints of display and durability. The integrated furniture, custom-made from locally reclaimed solid ash, punctuates the space with contemplative and warming stops.
PASSAGE embodies an integrated approach to design: spatial conception, artistic direction of visual contents, furniture design, technical development, and coordination of production and installation. It is a work at the crossroads of architecture, art, and design, transforming a thoroughfare into a moment suspended in time.
