GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 19th edition
Discipline : Communication & Branding
Categories : Environmental Design / Signage, Wayfinding & Murals : Gold certification
Conceived as a natural extension of the interior design by LemayMichaud, the signage for this project is part of a comprehensive approach where wayfinding, architecture, and brand identity converge. Structured around four key pillars, strategy, integration, identity, and accessibility, it aims to deliver a seamless, intuitive, and inclusive user experience.
The wayfinding strategy forms the foundation of the project. To simplify navigation within these new offices, the space is organized into two main zones, North and South, allowing for efficient location of rooms and teams. A coherent numbering system has been implemented, supported by a clear spatial hierarchy. This is expressed through variations in panel scale, the assignment of distinctive names to key areas, and the integration of cantilevered signage, enabling quick identification of points of interest throughout the environment.
The integrated design approach is driven by a balance between visibility and discretion. Each signage element has been carefully designed to harmonize with the interior architecture, both in its proportions and its color palette. This ensures that signage integrates naturally into the space while maintaining a strong and functional graphic presence.
The integration of brand identity plays a central role in the project. Inspired by the organization’s polygonal symbol, the signage system unfolds through a modular design language that shapes both panel forms and pictogram design. These pictograms echo the angles and curves of the logo, introducing a distinctive and human-centered dimension. Directional signage, conceived as a three-plane composition with one element pivoting around a corner, allows for multi-directional readability while adding visual rhythm to the space. Additionally, an immersive graphic intervention within a corridor, composed of diagonal lines derived from the logo, envelops users and reinforces the brand experience.
Finally, particular attention has been given to universal accessibility principles. The project incorporates bilingual communication tailored to usage contexts, prioritizing pictograms for broader comprehension. All signage features high contrast, non-reflective surfaces, and includes tactile and braille information, ensuring optimal readability for all users.
