The mandate :
The project is built on the site of the former Collège Sainte-Marie de Montréal (1848-1969), known as one of the city's oldest academic institutions.
The mandate consisted of designing the amenities. ACT architecture design team had a blank slate regarding the design and was inspired by the rich history of the site, thanks to research conducted through the photos and archives of the Jesuits of Montreal.
It was essential for our team to pay homage to this iconic educational institution. The design was carefully conceived to revive the spirit of the former college through the materiality and details of the spaces.
While ensuring consistency in the choice of materials with Phase 1 — also carried out by ACT — the aesthetic of Phase 2 is based on a more contemporary, yet equally warm, approach.
The project includes the development of new common areas: a lobby that opens onto the bustling downtown area, a fully equipped mail and package room, and the creation of a new mezzanine.
The lobby’s three levels open directly onto the corner of René-Lévesque Street, ensuring visual continuity. The architecture emphasizes the interplay of volumes and diagonal lines, creating a space that is both dynamic and distinctive.
The coworking space joins the one from Phase 1, providing additional workspaces as well as a new multipurpose room.
The result provides residents with a refined, welcoming, and functional environment that is ideal for both relaxing in comfort and socializing.
