Le Spa is designed as a tribute to the historic Manoir Hovey, incorporating elements inspired by the original building and its architectural features. The building was once the summer home of Henry Atkinson, owner of Georgia Power in Atlanta. He built the structure in 1900, inspired by George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon.
Our own design of the spa building is a direct response to this allusion, but with a contemporary twist. We pay homage to the high columns of Mount Vernon, but we use the loggias around the building to shelter the main stair, to act as entry portico and as a private balcony for the suites. At the entrance, there is a lower version of the colonnade, serving as an entry that provides access to three luxury suites on the top level. The façade is playfully asymmetrical, and on the west side leads to a large sweeping vault that guides spa guests to descend the staircase leading to the pool level.
On the lake side, the colonnade comes closest to matching the height of the main Manor building. However, the lowest level is constructed using traditional field stones. This design detail helps anchor the building in the landscape and pays homage to the area's traditional stone walls.
On the east side, the building connects to an outdoor spa circuit of cold and hot pools, a sauna, and relaxation room. This provides views of the magnificent pines along the lakeshore, creating harmonious connection with the natural surroundings.
