In collaboration with Carbonleo, LemayMichaud designed Le Fou Fou as an elegant and vibrant gathering place where culinary discovery meets creativity in a dynamic atmosphere that draws visitors in at any time of day. Located on the second floor of the Royalmount complex and overlooking the central piazza, Le Fou Fou brings together food stalls, restaurants, and bars to deliver a distinctive experience where every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to balance character and elegance.
Spanning over 30,000 square feet, this unique venue features twelve culinary destinations, four lively bars, and a flexible indoor-outdoor layout that can accommodate more than 900 guests. Its bold yet refined identity blends the charm of Provence and the spirit of French bistros with a contemporary urban aesthetic that celebrates Montréal’s cultural vibrancy.
Polished concrete and industrial finishes set a confident tone, softened by textured surfaces and warm, earthy hues reminiscent of European cafés. Shades of green, inspired by the Provençal landscape, add a fresh vitality, while lush greenery throughout the space fosters a biophilic connection that enhances the overall ambiance. Custom lighting, designed by a local studio, helps the space seamlessly transition from day to night, reinforcing the dual nature of the venue.
The spatial layout supports the project’s ambitions by dividing the space into two distinct zones, each with its own atmosphere tailored to different moments of the day. One side, filled with natural light, offers a welcoming and family-friendly setting. The other, darker and more festive, is designed for evening gatherings and social events. This contrast allows for flexibility of use without compromising the overall design unity. Every element, though distinct, contributes to a cohesive and immersive experience.
The generous ceiling height is celebrated with design features that maintain openness while avoiding a cavernous feel. Hanging enclosures add rhythm and visual landmarks that enhance spatial orientation. Materials were selected not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their durability and performance, ensuring the space remains refined and resilient in the face of high foot traffic.
A large-scale mural enveloping the central elevator shaft, custom-designed by LemayMichaud’s graphic design team, acts as both a focal point and a unifying element within the space. Inspired by magical realism, it blends surreal imagery with lush vegetation to add narrative depth and a bold artistic statement.
