Erected in 1977, the building now known as FARO has 237 residential units located in the heart of the Ville-Marie neighborhood in Montreal. Once called Place Papineau, this building has marked several decades of the urban and social landscape of the area.
When BentallGreenOak (BGO) took over the management of the building two years ago, an extensive renovation and repositioning project was launched to restore the property to its original charm while meeting the contemporary needs of the residents. The work began in September 2025 and will extend until January 2026.
The mandate aimed to modernize the common areas, notably the entrance hall, the gym, and relaxation spaces, favoring natural light, noble materials, and a soft and warm palette. The conceptual approach, by Métaphore Studio Design, focuses on a welcoming and secure atmosphere, while reducing the areas of discomfort and vulnerability often associated with the surrounding social fabric.
This project aims to be an example of responsible urban planning, where architecture and interior design become concrete tools for urban revitalization, promoting the quality of life for residents and the enhancement of the area.
