A stunning bathroom! This architectural lighting project stood out for the complexity of its integration and the level of precision required to highlight an backlit onyx slab. Far more than a simple decorative element, this design demanded in-depth consideration of the structure, technical accessibility, and long-term viability of the installation. One of the main design challenges lay in integrating the light box behind the natural stone, while ensuring discreet and efficient access to the electrical components for potential future maintenance or repairs. Every detail of the installation system was therefore carefully considered to combine technical performance, visual elegance, and accessibility. The mirrored section adjacent to the onyx also underwent significant technical design work to preserve the overall visual purity. The desired effect was a completely invisible lighting integration, where the mirror appears to float between two vertical textured surfaces, with no visible light source or mounting system. To achieve this visual lightness, meticulous planning of the thicknesses, recesses, and different layers of wood was required from the construction phase. Each depth was carefully calculated to allow for the concealed integration of lighting, while ensuring perfect alignment of materials and continuity of planes. This complex juxtaposition process created a composition where light becomes an integral architectural element, revealing textures and amplifying the depth of the space without ever exposing the technical aspects that make it possible. The project also had to be redesigned during construction and demolition, following the unexpected discovery of a steel column precisely where the lighting box was planned to be located. This major structural constraint necessitated a complete re-engineering of the support system and the lighting assembly, without compromising the desired effect of lightness and purity. The final result demonstrates a great synergy between design, engineering and execution know-how, where the technicality remains invisible in favor of a refined and sculptural luminous experience.
