A contemporary country residence in Magog inspired by traditional agricultural volumes
Located in Georgeville, in the Magog region, this residence of about 4000 sq. ft. consists of three main volumes connected by curved passages. Designed by MUUK Architecture, the house naturally integrates into the land and evokes an old agricultural ensemble.
From the road, the house looks like a small group of agricultural buildings. Its gray steel roofs and natural cedar shingle facades harmonize with the surrounding hills and fields. The volumes follow the slope of the site, while the curved passages form an intimate inner courtyard.
The courtyard hosts the pool with integrated spa and multi-level terraces. Three areas stand out: swimming, lounge and dining, and outdoor hearth. The fluid circulation between these spaces creates continuity between nature and daily life. The garage, a level lower and connected by a curved walkway, completes the composition and reinforces the impression of a contemporary hamlet.
Inside, the solid wood structure and red cedar ceilings create an enveloping atmosphere. The natural stone walls extend the materiality of the site. A central fireplace occupies the living room. The kitchen integrates a bench and a tapestry wall, adding comfort and refinement.
The staircase, along a curved stone wall, connects the ground floor to the guest rooms of the garden level and to a bar area with large retractable windows. The latter opens onto the pool and acts as an integrated summer pavilion. The project Rural Hamlet combines the vernacular simplicity of agricultural buildings with a contemporary expression. The whole integrates into the landscape as if it had always been there, thanks to durable materials and a site-sensitive design.
