GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 19th edition

At the heart of this century-old home, the intervention was conceived as an act of continuity. The intent was neither to replay the past nor to seal it under glass, but to restore its presence and quiet elegance. Here, the decorative language becomes a way of inhabiting time: choosing balanced proportions, honest materials, and details that endure without losing their breath.
The original woodwork, generous and structuring, guided the entire project. Wall panelling, glazed doors, casings, and mouldings were carefully restored. Where additions were required, they were drawn to extend the existing vocabulary without artifice. Reintroduced to the light, the wood was finally able to recover its depth and warmth.
The planning strategy also hinged on a decisive move: clarifying circulation through a reconfiguration of the staircases. The former service stair, no longer useful, gave way to a clearer layout centred on the main stair. Routes now align with the logic of the house and organize the new arrangement of rooms around a legible axis. This structural work, discreet yet fundamental, lends daily life a renewed sense of inevitability, as though the home had long been waiting for this version of itself.
On the main floor, the living spaces retain their sequences and thresholds. Large doors frame perspectives, let light travel, and preserve intimacy. The house is experienced in gentle transitions, where each opening becomes a moment rather than a mere passage.
The bright and measured kitchen settles into a contemporary classicism. Clean-lined millwork, softly veined marble, and warm-toned hardware compose a noble, durable material palette. An arch connects to the adjacent spaces, a nod to traditional passages reinterpreted with contemporary precision. Here, everyday life becomes a simple ritual, supported by choices that privilege longevity over trend.
The bathrooms echo the same restraint. Marble wainscoting, softly patinated fixtures, pedestal-style basins, and a classically proportioned tub shape an atmosphere that is both refined and calming. Light, filtered through windows and stained glass, lends the surfaces an almost tactile quality.
Up through the upper floors and into the attic, the home remains faithful to its spirit. Restored floors, quiet volumes, integrated storage, each intervention favors coherence over effect. The result is a house re-tuned to its time, where the original architecture is neither imitated nor contradicted, but simply revealed.
