The General Approach

With this new permanent exhibition, the goal was not only to introduce visitors to different types of science, but also to use this language to reveal the connections that unite us with our environment. Hand-painted by muralists, sweeping scientific questions line the walls, inviting the public to reflect and seek answers. By developing a visit experience centered on interconnection, we foster curiosity and empathy toward nature, and demonstrate that science can be used as a tool for building a sustainable future. The approach was designed to offer a participatory journey, where visitors must engage in action in order to gain knowledge.

The Tree of Knowledge serves as a guide and a powerful symbol. Its roots, made of real wood, spread throughout the room. It stands as a metaphor for the sharing of personal knowledge that contributes to the growth of collective wisdom — illustrated by the sending of knowledge sap to the tree through its roots. This poetic approach moves away from the strictly factual tone often found in science museums, elevating the experience of discovery through an immersive sensory world.

An Inclusive Journey

In order to adapt content for audiences of different age groups and promote accessibility, the digital interactives in each of the four thematic zones were designed to give users complete freedom of choice. The home screen allows visitors to select their level of knowledge, or even explore everything if they are particularly curious or wish to learn progressively. This approach empowers visitors to make their own choices directly at the interactive stations, without requiring any intermediate equipment.

A Sense of Empowerment

From the moment visitors enter the room, they step into an immersive world evoking a magnificent and precious natural environment. Organic scenic elements, bathed in a soothing soundscape and soft light, engage the senses in a positive way. To fully experience the exhibition, visitors cannot remain passive. By questioning, handling tools, and experimenting, they deepen their connection with science and the environment. Although guided by the Tree of Knowledge, each visitor remains responsible for their own learning and can navigate their journey as they see fit. And as they take action and make choices, they develop a sense of empowerment.

Beyond their visit to the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to nurture and grow their curiosity and their desire to engage with science outside the museum walls. By getting involved in local citizen science initiatives, they will contribute to building a sustainable future. It is our hope that this positive message will continue to resonate with visitors for a long time to come.
