This new elementary school is located in the heart of a new development adjacent to an agricultural area in the town of Carignan.
Given the narrowness of the site and the limited street frontage, the building was positioned perpendicular to the street. This choice allows, from the moment you arrive on site, to maximize the visual impact of the side facade by exposing its full length to the street. The volumetry and the use of sloped roofs for community spaces integrate with the neighborhood's scale, and the linearity promotes relevant integration with the agricultural landscape's subdivisions.
The school's community spaces are closely connected to the outdoor courtyard and the agricultural landscape. The generous fenestration offers an abundance of natural light promoting biophilia. The ceilings, the exposed wood structure, and the sloped roofs create a warm and dynamic atmosphere.
We have created open, flexible, and shared learning spaces. They have been designed to encourage exchanges and offer real socialization spaces. Students walk through corridors of varying scales, rhythmically arranged with different moments that invigorate the space, create surprise, and stimulate curiosity.
The new Boisé Elementary School is defined as an innovative project that naturally anchors itself in the Carignan landscape and creates unique, open, and inspiring spaces for its students to learn and grow.
