The Devaux kitchen is part of a complete renovation project for a residence located along the St. Lawrence River in Boucherville. Purchased by a family with three teenage daughters, the home was entirely reimagined to better reflect their lifestyle while highlighting its exceptional setting.
From the earliest stages of the architectural plans, we were brought into the project to further develop the interior design approach. Our intervention focused on maximizing the river views while ensuring a fluid, cohesive, and elegant spatial organization. The goal was to create a space that feels both open and structured, where certain areas, such as the lounge adjacent to the kitchen, are subtly defined by a wood-framed glass transom, without compromising natural light or the visual continuity toward the river.
The clients’ strong trust allowed for a rich and creative collaboration, giving us the opportunity to push the design concepts further. Every element was carefully considered, from the custom millwork drawings to the selection of materials and furnishings.
The kitchen combines functionality and elegance. The high ceilings, paired with a strong sense of symmetry on either side of the range hood, create a striking and structured visual impact. The breakfast nook, subtly concealed, blends practicality with thoughtful integration. The use of soapstone and Carrara marble brings a relaxed elegance to the space — understated, timeless, and refined.
The openings were carefully framed to enhance the river views, which became the guiding thread throughout the project. The palette of tones, directly inspired by the surrounding landscape, creates a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors. The existing exterior architecture, characteristic of the neighborhood’s traditional Canadian homes, was preserved, while the interior intervention allowed for a more open reconfiguration of the spaces, particularly in the kitchen, where the high ceilings amplify the sense of openness and light.
