Fire Station 44 – A New Generation of Public Infrastructure
Located at 2655 Matte Boulevard in Brossard, within the Longueuil metropolitain, Fire Station 44 is a flagship achievement of Groupe Leclerc architecture+design. Designed according to the highest standards, it combines performance, functionality, comfort, and exemplary working conditions. Strategically located to optimize response efficiency and streamline access and emergency maneuvers, Fire Station 44 also stands out as the first fire station in Quebec to offer a complete decontamination pathway limiting the spread of toxic particles in living areas.
Acclaimed Project
Inaugurated in December 2023, the fire station was recognized for its exemplary design. Mayors Catherine Fournier, of the City of Longueuil, and Doreen Assaad, of the City of Brossard, praised the modern building, delivered on time and within the $21M budget, combining innovation, efficiency, sustainability, and staff well-being.
Energy and Comfort
The building envelope is highly efficient, the mechanical systems are high performance, and natural light is optimized. Water is recovered for outdoor use. Rest areas are insulatedand soundproofed, ensuring an environment conducive to recuperation, as daily life is punctuated by often long periods of calm, abruptly interrupted by emergency calls.
Architectural Identity
The architecture combines wood, masonry, and exposed concrete in a simple and long-lasting composition. The building's volume faithfully reflects its interior uses. The glazed drying tower, both utilitarian and emblematic, affirms the site's identity.
Conclusion
Fire Station 44 doesn't just meet expectations: it exceeds them. It challenges conventions, transforms constraints into opportunities, and redefines what a 21st-century emergency services building can—and should—be. Its silhouette, sculpted outside the usual framework of rectangular volumes, asserts a strong, contemporary identity. This is not just another fire station; it is a symbol of progress, an architectural manifesto dedicated to health, sustainability, and efficiency.
Choosing to recognize Fire Station 44 means saluting a bold, visionary project. It emphasizes that beyond its walls, architecture can protect, inspire, and advance the standards of tomorrow.
