GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 18th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Residence / Residential Space 1,600 - 5,400 sq.ft. (150 - 500 sq.m.) : Silver certification
Nestled on the fourth floor of a former post office in the Plateau-Mont-Royal district of Montreal, this loft space transformation stands out for its optimization of space and refined aesthetics.
Space Optimization
The challenge of this project was to reinvent the interior configuration to create new rooms by subdividing existing living spaces while providing maximum storage. By taking advantage of the ceiling height, using space innovatively, and focusing on custom-made furniture, the space has been maximized to meet the clients' needs. The design was conceived with verticality in mind, and all integrated furniture combines functionality, storage, and aesthetics. The expression “a place for everything and everything in its place”.
Influence of Haptics and Optics
Haptics is to touch what optics is to sight. Material coherence is essential in this project, with each intervention carefully linked by thoughtful material choices to create a modern, refined, and warm atmosphere. Wood, stone, steel, and glass meet for a harmonious contrast and sensory depth. Wood, used in panels and slats, runs through each room, creating visual and tactile continuity. Lighting elements and furniture define spaces by bringing in varied textures and a touch of sophistication.
Balance Between Elegance and Warmth
The result of this transformation offers a peaceful and harmonious environment in the heart of the city. The wood envelops and reassures. The space is unobtrusive thanks to the integrated furniture, freeing surfaces and highlighting the different design elements. The common living space is perfect for both relaxation and family and friend gatherings in a chic and warm atmosphere, while the new bedrooms offer a haven of peace in this bustling neighborhood.
