Café Le 9e — A vibrant homage to Art Deco in a heritage setting
Set in a compact space laden with history, Café Le 9e continues the stylistic tradition of the illustrious restaurant L’Île-de-France, finely evoking the timeless elegance of the Art Deco era. From the moment one steps inside, visitors are transported to a bygone but fascinating era, where refinement, controlled geometry, and the nobility of materials come together to offer an immersive and sensitive experience.
Conceived as a natural extension of the 9th floor of the Eaton Center—a heritage-classified site—the café meticulously respects the singular atmosphere and historic charm of the place. Contemporary interventions have been guided by a desire for respectful integration, where every detail nods to the original spirit.
Wood, enhanced by a milky and muted envelope, imparts warmth and distinction to the setting. Period marble, carefully salvaged from the upper spaces, adorns the columns with nobility, extending the material history of the site. The luminous metal drape, inherited from the late renovation of the heritage restaurant, has been precisely restored and reintroduced into the new layout. It traces fluid lines, accentuates the curves, and evokes the world of great transatlantic liners, icons of decorative modernism.
This project thus aims to create a dialogue between past and present, heritage and design, in a place where each architectural gesture reinforces the soul of the site while breathing new life into it.
