In July 2025, Bombardier inaugurated its Innovation and Design Center, a place created to imagine the future of its aircraft and reinvent the cabin experience through design and innovation. Designed by Bombardier's industrial design team in collaboration with the architectural firm GRSA, the center was conceived as a versatile and inspiring space where ideas take shape and become concrete solutions for the aircraft of tomorrow.
The center's environment fits within an existing built framework, entirely reimagined to meet the needs of a multidisciplinary team — industrial designers, engineers, craftsmen, upholsterers, and prototypers. This space fosters creativity, collaboration, and experimentation, allowing the development of innovative concepts and solutions.
The layout revolves around four areas: a central modular space dedicated to projects and fuselage models, a meeting area, manufacturing workshops (3D printing, wood workshop, upholstery), and an office area. This organization allows a natural transition between the different phases of the projects.
In the central space, modular experimentation areas and full-scale fuselage models provide dedicated spaces for projects and quick validations in representative cabin environments. Removable partitions allow configuring the space according to project needs, becoming an integral part of the layout, functional and identity-bearing. A contrasting intention dominated the color and material choices in the space. The dark walls erase spatial boundaries and highlight the fuselage models, while a luminous halo highlights the experimentation areas, enhancing the idea of a place where innovation is staged.
Annexed to the central space, the meeting area offers modularity that allows transitioning from executive meetings to collaborative configurations. It is here that the center's visual signature is expressed: a suspended acoustic ceiling, composed of a geometric pattern punctuated by triangular halos, creates a dialogue between authenticity and innovation and evokes creativity in motion. Its plan lowers to create an intimate atmosphere while opening up to the experimentation areas thanks to its angled installation. The Mach, Bombardier's logo, is positioned along the entry corridor axis, affirming the brand's commitment to innovation and design.
Unique in the aerospace industry, the Bombardier Innovation and Design Center offers agile, creative, and versatile solutions, entirely dedicated to supporting design and innovation. It has given life to a meaningful place, inspiring everyone who enters it while revealing that innovation is not confined to products; it is also expressed in the architecture that hosts them.
