GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 19th edition
Distinctions
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Office / Workplace Dining & Social Hub : Grand Winner
As part of a design contest, VAD was invited to rethink the central space of an organization. Captivated by the strength and sensitivity of the concept, the client entrusted VAD with the complete redesign of this nearly 14,000-square-foot area.
The mandate was to transform the design and layout, which was over 20 years old, into a contemporary living environment. More than just a simple break area, his space was intended to become a catalyst for encounters, creativity, and disconnection, capable of evolving over time while retaining a timeless character. Adjacent to a vast atrium, the project had to blend harmoniously with this architecture, characterized by its tall steel columns.
Driven by a bold and human-centered vision, VAD developed a concept inspired by the undergrowth, where curved forms, wood, and abundant greenery create an enveloping and calming environment. Light plays a key role: stretched fabric panels and point lights evoke sunbeams, while suspended lighting reminiscent of fireflies gives the space a soft yet lively atmosphere. Designed as a space connected to both people and their environment, this “undergrowth” becomes a place to gather and an opportunity to recharge throughout the day. Conceived as a hub of connections, it offers a variety of meeting spaces, ranging from open, bright zones animated by large communal tables to more intimate areas defined by curved banquettes, cozy nooks, and small tables encouraging interaction.
The design incorporates a slow design approach, emphasizing sustainability, high-quality materials, local products, and full awareness of the experience. The goal was to have a positive impact on users, strengthen their attachment to the space, and reflect the company culture through an environment designed to last, evolve, and be fully inhabited.
The result is a vibrant and welcoming space, where comfort, light, and greenery come together to create a stimulating, inspiring, and human-centered setting, transforming the daily life of the community.
