Ámina Wind Resort is a fully off-grid residential and boutique hotel development set on a pristine 20 km beach south of La Ventana, Baja California Sur. Facing the Sea of Cortés — named "the world's aquarium" by Jacques Cousteau for its extraordinary marine biodiversity — the project is embedded within one of the planet's richest and most untouched ecosystems. The region is also recognized as one of the world's foremost international destinations for kitesurfing.
The project was born from a commitment to building an autonomous community in deep relationship with nature. Six years of development were needed to realize this vision: a complex capable of operating in full self-sufficiency, without compromising the quality of life of its residents or the integrity of its natural environment.
The founding design decision is one of architectural restraint: though regulations permitted six stories, the project voluntarily limits itself to three, preserving the horizontal character of the landscape. Six reinforced concrete towers — chosen for hurricane resistance and long-term structural durability — are arranged around a central common core, generating a rhythmic sequence of volumes opening toward the sea.
The placement of each tower results from rigorous solar and wind studies, optimizing cross ventilation and natural environmental comfort. Façades open into stepped terraces fitted with palm fiber lattice sunscreens, filtering light and creating an interior microclimate that significantly reduces cooling demand throughout the year.
Materials follow the same logic of proximity and performance. Façades echo the tones of the surrounding sand, achieved through an in-situ mix of site-sourced sand and cement. Interiors are finished in chukum resin, a natural material providing texture and thermal mass — keeping spaces cool in summer and warm in winter, without mechanical systems. Fixed furniture in masonry merges architecture and function, while all other pieces were designed and crafted by Mexican artisans.
Landscaping consists entirely of 100% endemic, low-water species, arranged to evoke an untouched landscape and reinforce the project's integration with its natural setting.
Ámina is 100% self-sufficient. Photovoltaic panels, energy storage systems, and an integrated water management network ensure full energy and water independence on site. These infrastructures, combined with passive design strategies, allow the complex to operate with no connection to public utilities, in an isolated context subject to extreme climatic conditions.
Designed for a community of kitesurfers, athletes, and families deeply connected to the outdoors, Ámina Wind Resort embodies a coherent vision: sustainability not as a constraint, but as a way of life. Every decision — from site planning to the smallest construction detail — reflects a profound commitment to the land and its ecosystem.
