The Canadian coasts, bordered by vast bodies of water, are particularly exposed to coastal erosion. This phenomenon poses major challenges in terms of security, economy, and environment, leading to the loss of natural habitats and the fragmentation of ecosystems. In response to this growing issue, the Alcove project offers a sustainable and innovative solution.
Alcove is a modular concrete system designed to integrate into the intertidal zone of coasts. It acts as a barrier against the impact of waves and erosion by effectively dissipating their energy through its complex structure. Beyond its protective function, Alcove contributes to the restoration of coastal environments by providing an artificial habitat conducive to the attachment and development of various marine species. Over time, it thus fosters a rich and diverse ecosystem, enhancing the resilience of coasts against climate change.
By combining coastal protection and ecological regeneration, Alcove positions itself as a sustainable alternative to traditional coastal infrastructures. Its use of local materials and eco-responsible design makes it an environmentally friendly solution, capable of preserving shores while promoting biodiversity.
