Multidisciplinary production company based in Ottawa, their name alludes to 11:59 PM (one minute to midnight) and embodies their sense of urgency in addressing significant issues. 2359 combines technologies and live arts in a documentary approach to tell thought-provoking stories.
Basalte was commissioned to redesign the visual identity and create a very first website for 23:59.
Created with the Mori typography from Pangram Pangram, the logo evokes connections—those of shapes, arts, and ideas, while illustrating the passage of time through the shape of an hourglass.
The color palette, rather dramatic, reinforces the sense of urgency to act. The black directly echoes the mentioned name of the company (23:59 > one minute to midnight). The very striking orange creates a strong visual impact that catches the eye and fits within an alarmist color range.
The website aims to present the company's immersive and interactive works in an inspiring way, communicate the artistic intention, and promote their presence at various events. The animation of the numbers making up the logo passing through the hourglass adds an interactive touch to the site and enhances the idea of time passing quickly.
