Jean-Claude Poitras has been creating a remarkable body of work since 1972. A leader in Canadian fashion and a true ambassador recognized throughout the world, he has presented his collections on the greatest international catwalks, earning him national and international recognition, from the Moda del Amo awards in California to the Golden Thread in Monte Carlo, from the ARC Award in Toronto to the Golden Claw in Montreal. He has also been awarded the Ordre national du Québec and the Order of Canada. Throughout his career, his talents as a communicator have led him to be very present in the media, notably as a speaker and columnist. His passion for all facets of design has led him, since 2002, to put his stamp on tableware and the world of decoration, without forgetting the art of stained glass, which he reinvents.
In 2012, to mark his forty years of creation, he reveals his artistic soul. Since then, he has never stopped creating intoxicating, aerial and pure works that he declines on paper, glass and canvas as well as in luminous sculptures. A singular and plural artist, Jean-Claude Poitras never ceases to reinvent himself by revealing an enchanting art that celebrates beauty in its truest, purest and most luminous form.
Mr. Poitras was invited to present his work at the seventh edition of the Gwangju International Art Fair in South Korea. His exhibition “Parenthèse, au coeur de la ville chamade” presented at the Quebec Art Gallery of Place Royale was a real triumph from the point of view of the media and the general public. The Centre d’art Diane-Dufresne in Repentigny presented a first retrospective exhibition entirely dedicated to him from June 22 to October 15, 2017.
A trailblazer, a pioneer, a visionary, always relevant, Poitras is a creator who appeals to all generations and who continues to innovate off the beaten path.
