PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE – PEOPLE OF DESIGN VERSION!

What prescient youthful memory relates to your present career?

I remember racing formula cars and travelling all over the world with fond memories. Became a fashion photographer working worldwide. That formed my way of photographing.

What are three basic rules you learned from your mentors?

I did not have a mentor per say but reality taught me:
■ to strive for the best quality at all times,
■ that mistakes are there to learn,
■ that you shouldn’t drink too much!

What project launched your career?

When I was working as a fashion photographer, I was asked to photograph the wineries and estates in Napa Valley. That launched my career as an interior design and architecture photographer.

Examples of photographs taken by Hans Fonk for the article “The Axel Vervoordt standard” in OBJEKT magazine.

KARL LAGERFELD, REMBRANDT.

What is your most marked design quality?

Launching OBJEKT International and making it into the worldwide success it is today is my greatest contribution and design quality.

What peer quality do you most value?

Had no peers per say, but I had plenty of top talents I worked with all over the globe and over the years.

Which project is the epitome of your work?

OBJEKT International and, now, the new OBJEKT Int Digital portal are my career’s high points.

The new covers of the totally new Digital OBJEKT International.
Its a publications to experiment and take interior design out of context and make it into a new dimension.

How are your country of belonging’s values reflected in your work?

I see little or none of my country of birth’s values reflected in my work. Lived abroad so often, I consider my values, universal.

What always inspires you?

Beautiful women… not in a sexist manner… the sheer beauty, muses!

What always inspires you?

I’d be a black panther or a frigate bird. The freedom of roaming around… The freedom of roaming around.

What is your favorite place in the world?

It changes and goes from
Hollywood
to Bangkok!

What design or architecture project do you wish you would have thought of yourself?

The Lautner Residence in Los Angeles.
