BUBBLES AND MUSIC UNDER THE STARS
Rouyn-Noranda’s Emerging Music Festival is launching its Poisson Volant, a brand new concept for an outdoor summer stage.
Built on the Osisko Lake Peninsula , in Abitibi-Témiscamingue and imagined by the FME and its artistic director Karine Berthiaume, the brand new concept of an outdoor stage makes it possible to welcome a distant audience.
WHY CALL IT POISSON VOLANT?
The inspiration for the project is a nod to the Japanese tradition of hanging pennants in the shape of koi carp to represent all members of a family swimming against the tide at an annual celebration.
For the sake of Abitibian authenticity, the carp here transformed into a small perch that jumps out of Lake Osisko.
This tradition is believed to bring good luck to the home and instill an example of courage in future generations. “In this unusual period, we thought that these playful flying fish would be more than welcome!” explains the instigators of the project on their Website.
SHOWTIME, THE SAFE WAY!
The new outdoor stage and venue will offer, from June 24 to September 5, on Thursdays and Fridays, some thirty shows by mostly Quebecois and exclusively Canadian artists.
Amongst the artists scheduled to perform on the Poisson Volant’s Desjardins Stage are: Mara Tremblay, Koriass, Clay and Friends, Klô Pelgag, Alaclair Ensemble. The BreastFeeders and Matt Holubowski, all presented by Sirius XM in collaboration with Videotron.
The site is 100% compatible with the strictest COVID-19 measures that have been in place and could be maintained over the summer, at some point or another.
The seating arrangements and the sanitary measures in place are subject to change during the summer according to the directives of the Public Health, but, for the moment, 250 people will be able to attend the performances.
Ticket buyers will need to purchase tickets for one entire section at a time. For example, if a section has four seats, all four tickets will need to be purchased at once by one group member.
PLAN YOUR GETAWAY
Tickets for shows on Thursday and Friday nights are $20 per person. The FME will then take over the stage from September 2 to 5 to close the Poisson Volant’s inaugural season.
