YOO Montréal
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
The minimalism of YOO Montreal’s outdoors courts and terraces by NEUF architect(e)s and YOO by Starck recall the minimalism of the condo tower itself.
The podium, on which the terrace stands, showcases white concrete arches and 30-foot-tall black shutters, which brighten up the cultural corridor of Ottawa Street, in Montreal. This creates a somewhat protected ambulatory in front of the public domain. The lobby opens up symmetrically onto outdoor traffic areas such as the restaurant’s terrace, on one side, and a glass vestibule, bicycle rack and gym, on the other. These service areas guide us towards the backyard courts, where a contemplative pool and four levels of terrace space are designed to cater to various moods and needs. The exterior floors are completely heated, ensuring comfort to users while allowing for greater window use without too much breeze.
The jury rewarded the project for its mastery of uncluttered space composition and its repetitive geometry, transporting us to new levels of timeless elegance.
