creating a safe space for the 9-5 employee to store their bike during working hours and get ready for the day, located in multiple commercial buildings across the island of montreal.
with the importance of a green commute to the office everyday becoming more and more apparent, and montreal implementing their new bike paths throughout the city, groupe petra decided to dedicate a safe space for their tenants to store their bikes during working hours and changerooms to clean up before work, with the hope of encouraging their tenants to be more eco-friendly. these bike storages and changerooms are located throughout their commercial buildings in montreal and laval.
our mandate for this project was to create a safe and clean space that would encourage tenants to bike to work instead of taking their car or bus.
getting inspired by spa environments, we reflected on the different ways to plan the space to ensure it was both relaxing and easy to maintain and keep clean. settling on minimalistic lines and bright finishes, we created a space where the users would both feel comfortable and refreshed after use.
our main goal was to create a space where the 9-5 employee would feel comfortable and secure leaving their bike and getting ready, before and after work.
our design process included 2 major categories;
spatial planning. we sketched through multiple layout options with one main goal in mind: to ensure the security of the users and to optimize functionality, ensuring that the tenants would want to use the space because it was convenient.
design development. working through many phases of conceptual, three-dimensional planning, we were determined to create a welcoming and comfortable environment using colour and materials to attain the end goal.
we used 2 main design elements to bring our concept to life:
materials. wanting to create an environment that felt comfortable, open and inviting, we used bright and raw materials that were easy to maintain and durable, so that the space would always be clean.
colour. getting inspired by spa environments, and to help create an environment that was refreshing and relaxing, we chose colours that were bright but neutral.
