GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
Located on an Ontario island formed by the erection of a dam in close proximity, this artificial and entirely manshaped landscape offered living conditons that made it barely inhabitable.
The project was developed as a labyrinth to provide spaces with a direct relationship to the sky, horizon and wind.It rises up by delineating the interior/exterior interface with its copious fenestration opening onto the site, and the subtle interweave of textures. The dialogue between the natural light and the architectural elements accentuates the site’s theatrical splendour.
The structure disperses empty, half-open spaces, sheltered from the wind and rain, as zenithal zones the occupant appropriates. The masterful play of volumes and integration of materials demonstrates sophistication on every level and inspires a subdued, refined, confident interior.
