Introduction to the design works of the renovation project of Dongshan State Guest House in Luoyang
The project is located in Luoyang City, the central part of China, which is known as “the hinterland of Kyushu and the thoroughfare of ten provinces”. It is a famous historical and cultural city in Henan. Luoyang Dongshan Hotel is located in the Longmen Scenic Area, with unique natural and human resources. It is the first five-star hotel in Luoyang. The first five-star garden landscape-style foreign-related hotel. The hotel is surrounded by mountains and waters. The existing buildings in the area and gardens complement each other.
Fully understanding the opportunities and challenges of the current situation is a prerequisite for the renovation. The analysis of the current situation, the ideas of renovation, the goals of renovation, and the existing architectural form and garden style provide rich cultural support for the interior.
The transformation ideas are mainly carried out from the following four aspects:
1.Integrate the humanistic style of existing buildings and gardens, and create a people-oriented interior space with the concept of integrated renovation.
2.Fully explore the essence of Luoyang’s local culture and interpret the most distinctive and cultural guesthouse.
3.Pay attention to the coordination and unity of lighting, artwork, furniture, colors, etc.; focus on the use of sustainable materials based on the principle of environmental protection and energy saving.
4.Reasonably control the cost, and create a cost-effective transformation implementation in a classic way.
The formation of the scheme design, on one hand, stems from the study of successful benchmarking cases, and on the other hand, it mainly comes from a comprehensive and in-depth investigation of Luoyang culture. In-depth understanding of Luoyang’s thousands of years of historical context, natural culture, architectural culture, and human culture, and inject typical Lijingmen, architectural bucket arches, Longmen Grottoes, peony culture, Luo embroidery, and Dukang wine culture into the hotel.
The style concept of the project is positioned as: oriental ritual, artistic elegance, and contemporary aesthetics. The theme of the design revolves around the creation of “intriguing the ancient charm of Luoyang and enjoying the oriental ritual sequence”. The five sub-themes of “Yue ying”, “Collections”, “He Yun”, “Si yu” and “Returning to the Origin” are expressed in the cultural concept of different functional spaces. The color system is based on Zhao Boju’s “Autumn Colors of Rivers and Mountains” in Song Dynasty. Use local natural materials, integrate contemporary craftsmanship, discover unique local artworks, and combine contemporary smart technology experience.

We pay tribute to the cultural heritage of the thousand-year-old imperial capital with Song-style feelings, and use contemporary aesthetics to interpret the progressiveness of space design, the winding path reciprocates, the scenery is quiet, and the moving line of sensory filtering is strengthened, so that people can complete the journey of the beautiful world.
Think about the relationship between people and space from the perspective of experience and spirituality, and write the prosperous chapter of this hinterland of the Central Plains with classic, restrained and powerful language.
