The Centre d’expérimentation et de développement en forêt boréale (CEDFOB), affiliated with the CEGEP de Baie-Comeau, plays a significant role in innovation within the boreal region. Its primary mission is to conduct research and development focused on the boreal forest while promoting the sustainable valorization of its resources.
The new pavilion for research and innovation, designed to effectively meet the needs of its occupants, adopts a simple and optimized volumetry in harmony with the existing building structure. It houses four thematic laboratories, administrative spaces, a reference library, multifunctional rooms, and a center for interpretation and awareness of the boreal forest.
The architectural concept of the building draws heavily from characteristic elements of the boreal forest, with its innovative landscaping approach exploring themes of verticality and tree rhythm. Inside the building, wood is ubiquitous. Sometimes used as structure, cladding, or furniture, it stands out in contrast with the overall white and bright environment.
The CEDFOB is more than just an architectural structure. It embodies a sustainable and visionary daily philosophy. Every design decision reflects a commitment to environmental excellence, creating a work environment that seamlessly integrates into the natural landscape.
