The project concerns the interior design of a commercial space, conceived with regard to the principles of sustainable development and the health and well-being of users. The realization of the project aims at the integration of the principles resulting from the environmental certifications, such as LEED and WELL as well as the application of the normative principles of well-being, universal accessibility and health. Although this is a fictional project developed as part of a conceptual exercise, this project is similar to a real-life scenario, in which LOOP Mission wishes to move into a new space for their headquarters. The new spaces include a “workspace” section for the company’s employees as well as a “commercial” section open to the public.
LOOP is a company whose mission is to reduce food waste. They produce cold-pressed juices made from fruits and vegetables rejected by the food industry, beers made from rescued bread and “perfectly imperfect” fruits. LOOP is a company that fits into the context of the circular economy, seeking to “create value from waste”.
Located in the heart of the Centropolis in Laval, the building is glazed on three sides, thus offering privileged access to natural light. The main challenge is to respond to the critical views that a suburb offers, accompanied by the great lack of privacy. Thus, with the help of a simple path, a neutral and tactile materiality and a clear volumetry, a new landscape is created and a new horizon line is drawn. A monochromatic landscape is conceived where the boundary between exteriority and interiority is blurred and where the human spirit can be interrupted to welcome silence and serenity.
The project entitled Terre-à-terre emphasizes contemplative architecture, simplicity and the human as a humble being.
