Project description:
Solid elm dining room table.
The tabletop is 84 x 41 x 1.5 in. on two semi-circular bases each composed of more than 30 pieces carefully assembled and glued together. The design was in response to the clients’ request to allow their entire large family to gather easily around ,unobstructed under the table.
The arched bases allow for seating for more than 10 people.
In addition, this table is made entirely of solid elm. It is a heavy, hard and very resistant wood, with a beautiful grain in tangential cut, the sapwood reveals a very rich color of a shimmering blond. The whole is well highlighted on the board.
In the present series of which this piece is a part, each product designed and manufactured by Atelier Théberge Design comes from a 70 year old elm tree that grew up at the foot of Mont Saint-Hilaire in Quebec. It had to be cut down on January 4, 2021, because of the drought that was undermining it, a consequence of the Dutch elm disease.
Thanks to the generosity of the owner of the place and the professionalism of the trimmer, we were able to keep three beautiful trunks of more than 10 feet. In this hard wood, with a magnificent grain, we sawed several boards in a mill in Frelishburg, then we stabilized them for 5 weeks in a dryer in Cowansville in the spring of 2021.
It is with pride that Atelier Théberge Design honors the strength and nobility of this elm.
A natural product of our region, the wood has been protected by several layers of 100% natural linseed oil flavored with lavender. This oil is produced locally in Granby by the company Eco Sélection.
Each of our products is made in this spirit: to innovate and pay tribute to this natural beauty.
