On the surface, The Sunny Isles Residence seems like a straight forward 2200 square foot beachfront getaway, but once the elevators open into its Calacatta vaglie, custom terrazzo foyer, sprawling Carlyle chandelier and floating bronze ceiling reveals, you know this is not your ordinary apartment.
The private elevator foyer makes way to a clad oak door flanked by hidden shoe cabinet (only for those in the know). Once inside, the 180 degree views of the Atlantic Ocean take over. You then quickly notice that all walls have been clad with a custom designed mouldings made of vacuum sealed reconstituted oak veneers. All doors along the north wall are concealed seamlessly in to the panelling. Brass angle runs top and bottom throughout the great room.
A beautifully executed terrazzo floor runs throughout, only interrupted by inlayed carpets surrounded by brass transitions.
Sajo Inc. was tasked with working along side the client and designer to develop not only an aesthetically designed wall panel, but one that could resist the humid weather conditions of south Florida, all while being immune to staining and damage.
Through several rounds of R&D, mock ups and testing, the decision was made to go with a reconstituted wood veneer from Italy, vacuum sealed around a mould Sajo Inc. developed in house. The result is mix of rich wood panelling one may find in a library, blended with the light beachy tones of the space and view.
While the best design may be those engineered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Sunny Isles Residence may just be a close second.
