GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 13th edition
Creating a relaxing atmosphere in symbiosis with the elements of nature and inspired by the presence of the river, the geography and the history of the site, the architects have imagined a layout and a volume reminiscent of the footprint of the docks that once stood here on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, at the foot of the Plains of Abraham. The complex consists of a main building parallel to the river, complemented by wings or secondary buildings positioned perpendicularly, creating a play of solids and voids that follows the profile of the land and unfolds towards the water in descending layers. The multiple spaces with a relaxing atmosphere are like a reinvented cavern, while the minerality of the interior design contributes to the building’s anchoring in the site.
The jury awards the Project of the Year prize to Strøm Spa Vieux-Québec and congratulates the LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design team for the beauty of the whole, supported by an exceptional use of materials.
