Located in the heart of a multi-generational residential sector, Parc Saint-Paul-De-La-Croix is a place invested by residents and frequented by a population of all ages. In addition, the park’s role is to meet the recreational space needs of several nearby schools, day camps and daycare centers: École primaire Louis-Collin, Collège Regina Assumpta, École primaire Jardin Bleu, etc.
.
Built in 1958, the park chalet and wading pool had never undergone major renovation and have seen their condition deteriorate in recent years.
The existing multi-purpose hall, like the trailer at Parc Jacques-Rousseau, was no longer sufficient to meet the various needs in connection with park activities.
The aim of the major restoration of the chalet at Saint-Paul-De-La-Croix park was to refresh, adapt and accommodate the building to meet the demands of its recreational use. The main challenge of this mandate was to analyze the scope of work required to refurbish the Saint-Paul-De-La-Croix park chalet, in order to determine whether the ideal solution is to demolish and build a new chalet, or to renovate the entire damage. After analysis, it was determined that renovation would be too extensive and costly. The project therefore took the direction of a new build following a demolition of the original building.
The choice to demolish the existing building was an opportunity to rethink the park in its entirety and develop a signature identity for the building, its landscaping and aquatic facilities by creating an architectural ensemble of significant visual quality. The overall landscape concept was rewoven by redesigning the paths, reinforcing the park’s plant palette and biodiversity, and developing various play areas, rest areas and meeting areas through the installation of furniture elements
.
The use of color and pitched roofs make the complex a community landmark within the park.
The paddling pool and water features have been completely redesigned to make the place welcoming, sustainable and universally accessible.
