Six Point Un
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 7th édition
The mission statement of Six Point Un founders is touching. “We want to offer a design that resembles us; a design that reflects our own identity: our culture and our environment”, says Jeremy Couture. Claudia Després adds: “We believe that the local development aspect is crucial. Therefore, we chose to work with local people and use local materials.”
This vision goes beyond words and it is clearly demonstrated by their Étagères, a sturdy modular storage system made of maple and solid ash wood, embellished with painted steel that recalls the wonderful Meccano structures of our childhood, and adapted to our rich local woods. The shelves are designed and manufactured in Quebec, of course.
In addition to granting the firm the Best Use of Wood Award in the product design category for their Sleigh Bench, the jury also points out that “Six Point Un has a unique language of its own that is well developed. Amongst young firms, it is one of the few that has such a strong aesthetic signature”. By giving this new company the New Talent Award, the jury wishes to encourage the two designers in their process, development and success.
