GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition

Discipline : Product

Categories : Product Design in Small Series & Hand-Made / Residential, Commercial & Built-In Furniture : Gold Certification

Categories : Special Awards / Product + Aluminium : Gold Certification

Categories : Industrial Design / Furniture - Residential : Gold Certification

Flagship product of the aluminum collection, the SILO chair reconciles functionality and geometric exploration. It combines straight lines and curves, magnifying the aluminum that composes it by exploiting its full depth.

When held, the SILO gives the impression of unparalleled solidity. The thickness of the backrest and seat is reassuring, the tubes joining the backrest recalling massive machined pieces and the shadow created where the material intersects contrasting with the shine of the edges. The SILO chair has a language of great honesty.

Formed from tubing and folding, the chair is composed of 100% Quebec aluminum. The union between the backrest and legs is expressed through a vocabulary borrowed from plastic molding, inspired by Italian design from the 1970s.

The use of aluminum tubing allows for robust legs with very thin walls, thus reducing the weight of the object and the amount of material used, preserving the essential material in the backrest and seat, where it is truly visible.

The SILO chair has been created with a genuine focus on sustainability, as evidenced by its design that allows for the removal of all its parts for repair purposes. This feature helps to ensure the product’s longevity and postpone its eventual end-of-life.
