In 2023, RMT wanted to relocate its head office. The brief was to redevelop an existing building, and the interior concept was to reflect the new brand image.
EXPRESSING SERVICE THROUGH MATERIALITY
RMT is a family business established for over 25 years in the transportation industry. The firm has developed expertise in the production of technological systems dedicated to heavy equipment and has positioned itself as a leader in its field.
From the outset, our team tried to imagine creative ways of expressing services, including the transportation of raw materials. One of the intentions was to enhance the value of the material in its raw state. For example, the ceramics we chose feature a highly perceptible aggregate reminiscent of cement. The material is not camouflaged, but rather celebrated. In this way, we nurture a notion of authenticity by letting materials express themselves. Naturally and with humility, we evoke the purity of matter.
Also to evoke transport and recall the truck box or even the container, corrugated was installed on the reception wall. In addition to serving the concept, this choice proved economical while adding verticality. The use of corrugated translates a raw look, which once integrated into the project proves chic and coherent.
DEALING WITH LOGO INTEGRATION
RMT’s corporate identity is recognizable by its evocative shape representing a test pattern. The logo is composed of straight edges and circular arcs that direct the eye towards its center.
Inspired by the company’s corporate identity, RMT has created a new logo.
Inspired by this strong identity, our designers integrated the logo by superimposing it on the floor plan. The center of the test pattern was positioned at the reception desk, creating a strong impact at the entrance with a large red circle marked on the floor. In addition, the corrugated wall behind the reception desk follows the same curve to accentuate the significant impact of the test pattern.
From this core, the logo’s lines explode and spread throughout the offices, conference room and workshop. By working on the identity on such a large scale, we never perceive the logo in its entirety, but we guess it everywhere as we discover it in bits and pieces as we move from room to room. The scale of the logo is so great, that it is decomposed yet omnipresent, contributing to its subtle integration.
To integrate the logo into the floor, we opted for tile carpet. The joints are imperceptible and the cut respects the geometry. The use of tiles proves practical, since if a section needs to be changed, it will be inexpensive to replace only the damaged tile.
The carpet is a practical solution to the problem of how to make the logo stand out from the crowd.
Carpeting provides a practical solution in terms of acoustics, helping to absorb some of the ambient sound. This material was also chosen for its perennial qualities, as its fibers are resistant to the continuous pressure of chairs on wheels. The selected carpet is also carbon neutral. At the end of its useful life, the obsolete material can be returned to the supplier, who guarantees 100% recycling.

NOURISHING THE FAMILY SPIRIT
Who says family also says sharing, and it was imperative that all employees could get together for dinner. Despite the fact that a good part of the team is on the road, the common spaces make it possible to welcome both visiting employees and those working in the offices. Should the dining room prove too busy, the space can be adapted to seat all diners. They can then move into the adjacent conference room by opening the sliding glass doors. For the duration of a dinner, the space is transformed into a vast open-plan area where everyone can find their place.
WORK AREAS
The workspace consists mainly of a workshop and offices. The needs are contrasting. On the one hand, technological tools are being developed, while on the other, administration is in full swing.
In the workshop, industrial needs require a lot of storage. To save costs and since they were proving functional, the existing cupboards were retained. For the layout, the customer was heavily involved, specifying numerous details specific to the plant’s workflow. As for the administrative area, RMT recommended independent fixed offices. coworking is also favored in the lounge, where the furniture is adapted for collaborative work and relaxation.
TLA is proud to have contributed to RMT’s reputation, and would like to thank its client for its great respect for the concept.
