LumiGroup, Quebec’s largest lighting agency representing lighting and furniture manufacturers from Quebec and around the world, is proud to unveil its new VIP showroom designed by Imperatori Design, an interior design firm specializing in work environments.
After exploring the idea of opening a small showroom or ephemeral store downtown, Le Studio, the decorative division of LumiGroup architectural, ultimately opted for a VIP showroom on the 18th floor of a condominium tower in Old Montreal. The project reflects a trend observable in design, where the shift to hybrid work has built bridges between residential and commercial environments.
The interior of the 2,400-square-meter condominium, truly feels like home, thanks to a design that perfectly blends the clients’ lifestyle with the style and elegance of their furniture and lighting products. The pre-existing setting included hardwood floors, white cabinetry, and above all, spectacular city views, but was essentially devoid of character. The clients wanted something that was very contemporary, yet warm and inviting for their guests.
The original layout of the condominium was conducive to the idea of a central showroom. The open core leads directly through the living room and dining room to a wall of large windows offering panoramic views of Montreal from east to west.
To define the space, Imperatori Design delineated the living room and dining room spaces by strategically placing a minimalist central gas fireplace surrounded by hot-rolled metal sheets. The living room was then dressed with unique contemporary furniture from Moooi, a renowned international brand that Le Studio represents.
To bring it all to life, the clients drew from their extensive lighting collections to find the optimal staging for each mood and product highlight. Chandeliers illuminate the entryway and dining room, while the other spaces modulate to the needs of the showroom. As we walk through the space, we discover various iconic lighting designs creating a direct link to the creators of these iconic objects, such as the Superloon floor lamp by Jasper Morrison of Flos.
With the Studio VIP Showroom perfectly defined and laid out, the focus shifted to the living and entertaining spaces. Imperatori Design incorporated two large, functional wall units on either side of the entrance, with a wood finish and floor-to-ceiling black mirror panels, highlighting the contemporary look of the entire condominium.
The condominium also features an open kitchen concept by incorporating a large black marble island in the center. The island, which can be surrounded by ample seating, can serve as a chef’s table for special events, with entertainment provided by a grand piano, strategically placed in a corner of the living room. Finally, comfortable furniture now offers VIP seating on the outdoor balcony for the Montreal Fireworks Festival during the summer months and other events. This innovative environment offers Lumigroup a unique opportunity to showcase its products in situ, in an authentic setting.
