Seven Quarters Series

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition

Discipline : Product

Categories : Product Design in Small Series & Hand-Made / Residential, Commercial & Built-In Furniture : Gold Certification

Named for the measurement discrepancy between raw wood and wood planed to finished
dimensions, every piece in this wood-laminate assembly is a 1 5/8” by 1 5/8”—six and a half
quarters, true, but Seven Quarters just sounds that much better.

Every piece in this limited-edition collection will be made to order in partnership with Montreal
woodworker-designer Gabriel Page. This exclusive producer brings his skill to bear on a design
that relies on no mechanical fastener. Every Seven Quarters item is made entirely of innovative
design, wood, craftsmanship and a bit of glue.

The hardwood laminate construction is stronger and less prone to warping than big planks or
milled boards. The design uses less material and uses it better. All variations in the
series—bench, table, and chair—maintain the same proportions. Tabletops and bench seats
seem sliver-thin, floating on massive legs—an illusion achieved by intricately engineered
joinery. The pieces are sleek in design but structurally stable, balancing delicacy and density in
elegant, oiled white oak.
