Salle de spectacle de Petite-Vallée

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 15th edition

Discipline : Architecture

Categories : Other categories in architecture / Concept & Unbuilt : Bronze Certification

Located on the Gaspé coast, the proposal for the Petite-Vallée performance hall was developed with passion and interest by Épigraphe. A true cultural showcase, it offers residents, performing artists and festival-goers a place for exchange and creation. The design proposes a sensitive response to the context through the creation of a landscape architecture that unfolds with subtlety and softness in the landscape of the Gaspé coastline. Set back from the shoreline, close to the chemin de la longue-pointe, the choice of insertion allows the shoreline to regain a certain thickness. The building thus responds to the desire for contact, since this strategic retreat allows for the drainage of individuals on the shore and the multiplication of possibilities for use.
In order to preserve the beauty of the approach to the site and the view of the longue pointe, the building is partially buried along the road. The existing topography lends itself to this exercise and offers visitors a fusional experience with the sea. The auditorium is thus discovered in a subtle way. Only a long glass façade cut into the hillside hints at its presence. The roof is integrated into the context as an extension of the topography. It is accessible and can be used to discover the local biodiversity through a series of small paths.
Inside, festival-goers are welcomed by a majestic wooden roof that extends along the length of the building and into the hall. All public and event spaces are in direct contact with the outside thanks to the multiple views and accesses offered by the long glass façade.
