Located in Lanaudière on the banks of a river, this single-family residence was built in 2012. With over 16-foot ceilings and a large windowed rear wall, the view of mature trees and the river is magnificent.
The project for the S-D residence involved redesigning the living room, but without making too many changes. The owners wanted to leave the urban-industrial look behind for a softer, fresher look. They wanted to remove the television, and instead create a space conducive to discussion and reading. They wanted a place that was inviting and cozy.
The customers highlighted a few points that were worth considering for the new design. There was a nice loss of space between the living room and the dining room. This space needed to be optimized. A lack of lighting (in the evening or on cloudy days) was also raised. The large wrought-iron and wood staircase was to be preserved.
To meet customers’ desired use, Roks transformed the TV area into a reading corner. A bespoke bench was designed, so residents could « curl up » on it to read, or just relax. With its abundance of windows, this relaxing corner lets you enjoy the outside scenery as if you were there. A wall lamp accompanies this corner to counter the lack of lighting in the evening.
The furniture has also been changed, for a more comfortable one with a footrest near the fireplace (as asked!).
To brighten up the room, the fireplace wall has been repainted white to better reflect the light. The wrought-iron staircase will also be white, to blend in and lighten the decor. The new main light fixture and other wall lamp will support this luminosity.
To liven up the home’s atmosphere a little, several brightly colored accessories and plants embellish the decor. Works of art by local artists have been chosen.
A glass-partition furniture was also custom-designed to optimize the space between the dining room and the living room. In addition to providing a slight separation, this piece of furniture is a bookcase on one side, and a bench with drawers on the other. The children, who often come home in summer to pick up, among other things, towels, will have access to it from the patio door. The simple yet effective aesthetics of this piece of furniture adds that little something to the decor!
Finally, to soften everything, a light wood floor laid in a herringbone pattern will harmonize this magnificent residence.
This soft, yet dynamic design represents the spirit of Roks.
