This office space was designed for the creative mobile app game firm Rovio (Angry Birds). The company was in the process of opening a new office based in Montreal. In this context, having an attractive office to attract local talent and develop a sense of belonging for a new team was very important, especially with the new reality of teleworking so that employees would want to get together to work at the office.
Bipède designed a fun and highly colourful space that reflected the company’s image. An engaging, dynamic and flexible space that encourages interaction and focuses on teamwork in a hybrid, virtual and face-to-face work mode.
From the moment we enter, we are immersed in the world of games, as we walk through a colourful passageway, animated by a mural created by local artists from the En Masse collective. This intervention strongly marks the entrance area of the employees, like an initiatory passage transporting us into the Rovio dimension.
This reception area gives access to the checkroom and opens at its culminating point on an inviting lounge and the company’s signature. Adjacent to the lounge is the kitchen and dining room, facing west and bathed in natural light. A long bench, leaning against the windows, hosts the dining area.
The bright blue kitchen cabinets create a focal point in the space. This integrated furniture is configured in an L shape and frames a glazed visual opening at the corner, allowing natural light to diffuse towards the building’s common corridor, while providing visual contact to users on their breakout space as they arrive on the floor.
In the work area, the layout is designed to be user-friendly and is punctuated with informal meeting spaces. The configuration of the workstations is designed to encourage exchanges between members of the same team. Each workstation island also has a spontaneous meeting table nearby. Lightweight, movable felt panels allow for isolation or openness between the islands as needed. In the heart of the open area, we find the gaming lounge and its lightweight and adaptable furniture.
Color energizes the space and stimulates creativity. It is distributed by zones, in monochromatic blocks, and also contributes to identify and differentiate the workstation islands and the meeting rooms.
The colored acoustic felt plays an important role in the design to absorb sound and reduce noise nuisance. This soft, warm and enveloping textile covers the walls of the conference and meeting rooms and punctuates the ceiling of the open area.
Throughout the space, plants have been integrated into the design to add organic elements and benefit from biophilia. This contributes to make this work space humane and lively.
