By : Anca Titei, Style & Art

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Interior Design

Categories : Other categories in interior design / Unclassified Category in Interior Design : Bronze Certification

Style & Art has been selected to create a contemporary ambiance for the reflected ceiling in the lobby of the prestigious Monit building, situated in the heart of Montreal’s financial district.
With its panoramic views of Mount Royal and the cityscape visible from the lobby, the reflected ceiling design required updating to evoke a modern atmosphere.
In the realm of human existence, lighting carries deep meaning, reaching far beyond its basic function of providing light. It shapes our emotions, impacts our productivity, and contributes to our overall sense of well-being.
More than just brightening up spaces, it’s about crafting atmospheres that evoke inspiration, elevate our spirits, and offer solace.
Recognizing the profound impact of lighting on human experience, Style & Art approaches this project with careful consideration, aiming to establish an ambiance and functionality of the space that welcomes and comforts clients and visitors from the moment they step inside.
Inspired by the vibrant rhythm of urban life, the design aims to evoke a sense of movement and fluidity, serving as a captivating focal point for all who enter.
Throughout the design process, the goal was to seamlessly blend new materials with existing ones, creating a harmonious transition between a contemporary aesthetic and the building’s post-modernist architecture, thus transcending temporal constraints.
Prioritizing luminosity as a fundamental design element, the approach seeks to infuse the space with an atmosphere of subtle sophistication. This innovative concept holds the promise of transforming the environment, imbuing it with an aura of luminosity, allure, and visual comfort.
Three distinct light sources are employed to achieve a flowing ribbon effect, each making a unique contribution to the overall design of the ceiling.
The first lighting source is an ongoing cove light installed on the exterior of the bulkheads. This will provide uniform ceiling illumination and create a soft glow on the backside of the bulkhead, adding a subtle yet effective sense of depth to the space.
The mini projectors installed at the ends of the U channels serve as a secondary lighting source, contributing to a layered effect that emphasizes the depth and dimensionality of the space. The U channels illuminated by these projectors create distinct lines of light and shade, adding to the visual interest and sophistication of the overall design.
In addition, the design concept incorporates a pendant linear lighting system as a third lighting source. This system not only delivers high-performance lighting but also contributes to unifying the space and establishing a cohesive design.
The interaction between light and shadow highlights architectural features, enhancing the overall sensory experience. Meticulously selected materials seamlessly integrate with the existing architecture, achieving a harmonious fusion of traditional and modern elements, resulting in a contemporary and polished environment.
Highlighting the imposing dimensions of the spaces, Style & Art has opted for a design language characterized by clean lines and pure volumes, juxtaposing with the appearance of the existing materials. Structured lighting takes precedence, creating spaces that feel comfortable, welcoming, and boast a distinctive ambiance.
The design utilizes reflections, contrasts, and shapes, creating an engaging interaction with the materials. It provides appropriate illumination for the Lobby area through proper adjustment of illuminance and color temperature.
With meticulous attention to detail, a warm, sophisticated atmosphere that welcomes visitors was created.
This vision not only revitalizes the space but also fosters a sense of comfort and well-being for both employees and visitors alike, enriching their experience.
By meticulously crafting lighting concepts, the environments inspire and uplift and also promote comfort and harmony.
Style & Art has seamlessly merged contemporary design with architectural integrity, transforming the lobby into an elegant and modern space.
In summary, the lobby has been artistically transformed into an captivating space by Style & Art’s meticulous attention to detail.

Through the expert integration of metal stripes, drywall, and integrated lighting, the ceiling undergoes a remarkable metamorphosis into a dynamic and contemporary centerpiece, ensuring not only optimal functionality but also enduring aesthetic allure for generations to come.
