Nestled within the picturesque Hudson River Park, Pier 57 emerges as a multifaceted haven—embracing culinary delights, recreational pursuits, and educational endeavors—a vibrant ode to the pulsating energy of New York City and its eclectic local community. Tasked by our client, Jamestown, L.P., in collaboration with partners RXR Realty, Google, James Beard Foundation, and YoungWoo & Associates LLC, our design team embarked on a transformative journey to craft an innovative environmental graphic design program for the exterior and ground floor of the newly revitalized historic pier.
Our primary focus converged on the ground-level gastronomic haven, Market 57, and the adjoining community living room—a space designed for dining, work, or simply unwinding while soaking in panoramic views of the Hudson River and the enchanting Little Island beyond. The comprehensive scope of our work encompassed the creation of large-scale identification signs, whimsical wayfinding elements on the floors, a dynamic tenant directory, marine life-inspired murals, and vendor signage and menus.
Under the guidance of The James Beard Foundation, Market 57 stands committed to advancing the Good Food For Good™ mission, advocating for the individuals who form the backbone of our indispensable food community and fostering a more equitable industry. Housing a diverse array of over a dozen kiosks, featuring a skillfully curated mix of minority- and women-owned businesses, beloved pop-up concepts, and the bold creations of seasoned operators, Market 57 epitomizes inclusivity and culinary excellence. Our design team diligently strived to seamlessly integrate the distinctive brands of Pier 57 and Market Hall, paying homage to the pier’s maritime history and marine life. Collaborating closely with each food hall vendor, we brought their unique brands to life, employing a design palette centered around low-cost materials and repurposed found objects. The result is a harmonious blend of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability that enriches the experience of all who visit this revitalized historic landmark.
